ARE CROSSLIFE COUNSELORS LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS?
CrossLife counselors have formal training and experience in both counseling and theology. All counselors are required to possess at minimum a master’s degree in counseling and have a ministry background, while also expected to possess a robust theological understanding. CrossLife counselors have respectfully and graciously chosen not to participate in state licensure citing the desire to offer counsel as ministry in an environment that is not required to operate free of a biblical perspective. The biblical perspective of counsel offers hope and healing beyond the limits of self and circumstances. CrossLife counselors are members in good standing with the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). WHAT IS BIBLICAL COUNSELING? HOW IS CROSSLIFE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER COUNSELING?
Biblical counseling simply stated is a gracious, Christ-centered approach to counseling knowing that the Bible presents to us a worldview that offers hope, true healing, and freedom. We counsel from the perspective that there are answers to the difficulties and pains that we face in this world, and that those answers are found in the gracious truth and love demonstrated and embodied by Jesus Christ. We also approach counseling as Jesus approached relationships…He walked with people graciously, speaking truthfully, and inviting people to a depth of life beyond painful circumstances. The majority of the counseling field operates on psychological theories that are deeply rooted in Naturalistic philosophy, or simply put, humanistic theories. While God has created humanity with amazing abilities, the answers to life are not found inside ourselves; if they were, why would anyone find themselves in a need for counsel? We are different in that while we can acknowledge some of the great work behind theories, we know that full healing and freedom are not found in self, but rather in the one who designed life. See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. - Colossians 2:8 (NASB) WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?
The privacy and confidentiality of our conversations and records are a privilege of yours and are protected by our ethical principles in all but a few circumstances. Those exceptions are limited to the following: known or suspected child or elder abuse; the intent to take criminal actions against another person; active suicidal ideations; and, counseling that is mandated by a legal authority, then it is assumed by your signature that you agree that your counselor may give/receive updates and opinions and share information for the purpose of professional continuity. If another party is making a donation on your behalf, we will communicate necessary appointment information to facilitate that service; however, counseling conversations and records will not be disclosed without an additional signed release from you. Your counselor reserves the right to consult with other counselors at CrossLife Ministries for the purpose of providing the highest level of care. HOW LONG ARE THE COUNSELING/COACHING SESSIONS?
CrossLife counseling sessions are 50-55 minutes per session. If longer/shorter sessions are necessary, that will be an option discussed with your counselor. The length of coaching sessions varies according to the coaching plan established with your coach. HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE/HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME?
The number of sessions needed to address your presenting issue will be determined in conjunction with your counselor. Unlike some counseling offices, CrossLife does not accept insurance payments, and is free of the constraints of minimum and maximum limits on the number of sessions. This allows us to serve you with a frequency and longevity that is beneficial to you. CAN CROSSLIFE COUNSELORS DIAGNOSE OR PRESCRIBE MEDICINE?
No, CrossLife’s approach to counseling (biblical counseling free of state licensure and insurance input) prohibits us from issuing diagnostic codes or prescribing medicine. If you are in need of/looking for a diagnostic code or medicine prescription while in counseling with CrossLife, we will refer you to trusted sources for your follow up. What reasons should someone seek counseling for?
The main reason to seek counseling is to have an objective, caring, experienced, and discerning individual walk with you as you engage the circumstances of life. Here are a few examples of why some seek counsel:
What are the benefits of pre-marital counseling?
We could go on and on about the benefits of pre-marital counseling; however, to answer your question succinctly:
Why should i consider coaching?
While counseling deals with pathology (cause and effect for presenting issues in our lives), coaching focuses on building for the future in the specific area you are developing…coaching is a vehicle to assist you in getting to the destination that God has placed on your heart and mind. What should i know about and bring to my initial appointment?
For your first appointment with CrossLife it is best to arrive 15 minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment time to complete and process paperwork (intake form and counseling policies are located above this section and can be printed and completed at home before arriving). When entering our building, our office is down the hall on the right; please feel free to enter without knocking, check in at the reception desk, and make yourself comfortable in the waiting area. what if i need to cancel my appointment?
We ask that appointments be canceled at least 24 hours in advance via phone except in the case of emergencies. This will allow us to utilize the open time slot for others who wish to come in for counseling or coaching. How can i refer someone to crosslife?
