Burnout 

"A state of mental and physical exhaustion"

The burnout process has 3 phases: 

1.  Stress Arousal Phase:(which may include)

bulletDifficulty concentrating
bulletFeeling out of control or overwhelmed
bulletStress related physical symptoms such as tachycardia, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal distress, rashes, acute elevation in blood pressure, muscle tension syndromes/ spasms, headaches, etc

 2.  Energy Conservation Phase:(which consists of)

Lateness

 Absenteeism

bullet

 Increased coffee, tea, soda, tobacco consumption

Withdrawal, avoidance

 3.  Exhaustion Phase: (which may include)

bulletFeelings of hopelessness and/or helplessness
bulletFully developed depression
bulletSerious consideration of changing job status
bulletSerious consideration of changing personal living situation
bulletDesire to withdrawal, take a “geographic cure”
bulletContemplation of self-destruction actions
bulletSubstance abuse
