Burnout
"A state of mental and physical exhaustion"
The burnout process has 3 phases:
1. Stress Arousal Phase:(which may include)
 | Anxiety |
 | Panic |
 | Difficulty concentrating |
 | Feeling out of control or overwhelmed |
 | Stress related physical symptoms such
as tachycardia, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal distress, rashes, acute
elevation in blood pressure, muscle tension syndromes/ spasms, headaches,
etc |
2. Energy Conservation Phase:(which
consists of)

Procrastination |

Lateness |
 |
Absenteeism |
 |
Increased coffee, tea,
soda, tobacco consumption |

Withdrawal, avoidance |
3. Exhaustion Phase: (which may include)
 | Feelings of hopelessness and/or
helplessness |
 | Fully developed depression |
 | Serious consideration of changing job
status |
 | Serious consideration of changing
personal living situation |
 | Desire to withdrawal, take a
“geographic cure” |
 | Contemplation of self-destruction
actions |
 | Substance abuse |
